Hi there, I'm

Ricky Jones

I'm a passionate, self-motivated mechanical engineering student at VCU, currently looking for an internship to strengthen my abilities and and find new experiences which can challenge me to develop.

I have over 6 years of independent programming experience in languages such as Java, C++, Python, etc., I'm well-versed in SolidWorks, Excel, and AWS, and I have a number of high-level engineering courses under my belt (and I made this website, which I at least think is pretty cool)

About Me

I'm a mechanical engineer with a passion for creative design, solving challenging problems, and working with my hands. I'm a very self-motivated person and I'm constantly working on side projects as well as my professional work. You can learn more about my projects on my portfolio (Hint: Click "Read More").

I'm currently in my sophomore year at Virginia Commonwealth University pursuing a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a concentration in Nuclear Engineering. I also have a minor in Aerospace Engineering, and I expect to graduate in May 2027.

Education

In high school, I went to the Math and Science Specialty Center at Clover Hill High School, eventually attending Virginia Commonwealth University in the Honors College. I am currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Nuclear Engineering, and a minor in Aerospace engineering.

You can read more about my GPA, relevant courses, student organizations, and more in the education section of my resume or by clicking the "read more" button. There's a lot more to this site than just this landing page!

Work Experience

In high school I landed an internship at the Jefferson Lab National Accelerator Facility, where I worked alongside my partner Emmett Souder and my mentor Carroll Jones. Our work focused on developing a model for training a predictive maintenance system for the lab's cooling tower and de-ionized water systems.

After coming to VCU, I obtained an internship at the Virginia Microelectronics Center, a fabrication cleanroom used for research and training. I was responsible for maintaining the lab while also working on my research under Dr. Nibir Dhar, where we're innovating on germanium instead of silicon.

Projects

My education has challenged me through academic projects which test my ability to not only interpret and understand the course material, but apply it with all the tedious technicalities and considerations that have to be made to bring a design into the real world.

Far beyond the classroom, though, I have spent an enormous span of my life working on my own personal projects, teaching myself the skills I need as I progress. I've learned tremendously from the effort I've put into them, and I encourage you to click "Read More" if you're interested in learning more.
